A classic book, indispensable for all Mexicans” • Visión de los vencidos is a classic work of Mexican historiography • This is the beste-seller of all times in unam’s backlist: in 2013 the 29th edition produced its sixth reprinting of 15,000 copies. • In Spanish, there have been editions printed in Cuba (1969), Spain (1985), and Venezuela (2006) • The collection was translated directly from Náhuatl by Miguel León-Portilla and the renown philologist Ángel María Garibay. • This book contains beautiful illustrations by Alberto Beltrán, copied by hand from the códices. About the author Miguel León-Portilla (Mexico City, 1926) is the most distinguished specialist and proponent of Náhuatl thought in Mexico and Ibero-America. He received the Doctorate of Philosophy from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where he has been a professor since 1957. He is also Emeritus Scholar of the Institute of Historical Research. He has been named Doctor Honoris Causa in numerous universitities, and in 1981 he received the National Prize for Social Sciences, History, and Philosophy, as well as the 2014 Bernardino de Sahagún Medal, among other honors.
