Creaciones del México Antiguo opens the door to these treasures, and presents a glimpse of the daily life of the Mesoamerican peoples in color images of more than 300 archaeological sculptures and essays by renowned academics, such as Mercedes de la Garza, Miguel León Portilla, and Fernando Ortiz Monasterio. Collector’s Profile Kurt Stavenhagen (Frankfurt, 1899-Mexico City, 1984) studied Industrial Psychology at the Goethe University. In 1936, he had to flee Germany and by 1940 he had moved to Mexico, where his love for Mexican pre-Hispanic sculpture began. His collection was widely known and viewed by great Mexican artists and intellectuals, such as Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, Miguel and Rosa Covarrubias, Juan O’Gorman, Paul Westheim, Mariana Frenk, Fernando Gamboa, among many others. In 2011, his son Rodolfo donated his father’s collection to the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Author’s Awards 2012 Prize of the Mexican National Association of Publishers.
