About the author Rubén Bonifaz Nuño (1923-2013) explored diverse paths of literary creation—poetry, essay, translation, and university teaching—all of which he pursued with the same passion. If his poetry appears in the best pages of Ibero-American literature, then his translations and essays, which span from Greco-Latin antiquity to pre- Colombian Mexican iconography, are models of elegance, rigor, and flawlessness. They evoke universes of words, forms, and structures that together give life to one of most varied and fecund works of literature in Spanish. • A panoramic and perfectly balanced selection of all the different facets of this poet. • Rubén Bonifaz Nuño is an essential writer in Ibero-American literature. • Bonifaz Nuño’s essays and poetry have been translated into English and French. “There are few examples of the dedication to poetry offered by Rubén Bonifaz Nuño. For him, poetry is devotion, a continual search, a disciplined way of recognizing disorder in the world and giving it order with precision and a destiny” Luis García Montero “Rubén Bonifaz Nuño is one our truest poets: classical, romantic, contemporary, he is concerned with the destiny of human beings and the human condition in Mexico and throughout the world” Ramón Xirau 2500 copies sold in first edition UNAM Foreign Rights 2015 5 Author’s Awards National Prize of Sciences and Arts, 1974 Order of Merit in the rank of Commander, Italia, 1977 Master Honoris Causa for The University State of Mexico, 1980 Diploma of Honor at the xxxii Gala Capitol Roma, first to be awarded to a Spanish language writer, 1981 Doctor Honoris Causa for The University State of Colima, 1984 Latin American Award Letters Rafael Heliodoro Valle, 1984 Alfonso Reyes International Award, 1984 Doctor Honoris Causa for The University State of Mexico, 1985 Jorge Cuesta Award, 1985 Universidad Nacional Award, 1990 Doctor Honoris Causa for The University State of Veracruz, 1992 Commemorative Medal of Palacio de Bellas Artes, 1997 Iberoamerican Award for Poetry Ramón López Velarde, 2000 Francisco Javier Clavijero Award, 2004 Rosario Castellanos Medal, 2005 Poetas del Mundo Latino “Víctor Sandoval” Award for lifetime achievement, 2007 Rubén Bonifaz Nuño by David Reyes Victoria.
