About the author Miguel León-Portilla (Mexico City, 1926) is the most distinguished specialist and proponent of Nahuatl thought in Mexico and Ibero-America. He received the Doctorate of Philosophy from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, where he has been a professor since 1957. He is also Emeritus Scholar of the Institute of Historical Research. He has been named Doctor Honoris Causa in numerous universitities, and in 1981 he received the National Prize for Social Sciences, History, and Philosophy, as well as the 2014 Bernardino de Sahagún Medal, among other honors.
