About the author Elisa Ramírez Castañeda, (Mexico City, 1947) is a sociologist by unam. She is also a poet, translator and researcher. She has been a professor at the National School of History and Anthropology. She was the founder of the Cultural Center of Juchitan and the Graphic Arts Institute of Oaxaca. She has published The End of the Montiocs, Oral Tradition of the Huaves in San Mateo, 1987; Indigenous Riddles, 1984; and After the Jaguar Footprint, 2002, the last two written for school libraries and multicultural classrooms. Author’s Awards Rockefeller and Bancomer Cultural Foundation Fellow in 1993 She obtained honorary mention and a special award in 1984 at the Alfonso X Contest of Literary Translation for her Spanish versión of the poetry book Emblems by Mark Strand.
