He participated at the students’ social movement in 1968 and he was a member of the Central Committee of the Mexican Communist Party from 1972 to 1978. He has been the editorial director of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa, and the general manager of the weekly magazine DI. He was mayor of the municipality of Tuxpan, Michoacan, in 1990.
