Folio 016 Víct or Gripo. Transformac ión Transformation Víctor Grippo Víctor Grippo’s work presents a poetics charged with utopia and humanism. Originally trained as a chemist, Grippo began his work as a painter in the political climate of 1960s in Argentina. Throughout his life he maintained an abiding interest in the relationships between art, science, and everyday life. His artistic production was suffused by his fascination with the transformation and regeneration inherent to nature, or its alchemical power. Ethics and aesthetics were points of departure for the artist, who did not see art as being dissociated from life. Beginning in 1970, he was a key player in ideological conceptual art, or its local variant, systems art. Víctor Grippo (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1936-2002). Starting in the mid-1960s, in harmony with the process of dematerialization of the artistic avant-garde, Víctor Grippo worked with perishable materials that were part of ephemeral installations. He applied his manual skill to a deep knowledge of the materials and their reactions. His answer to technical problems did not translate into sophisticated or costly mechanisms; rather, his interest was focused on artisanal and non-industrial solutions, in a departure from the lack of resources or spare parts coming from the First World: a technology of poverty.
